Profile: Michal Listkiewicz

The president of the Polish Football Association outlines his vision.

Michal Listkiewicz

Nationality: Polish
Date of birth: 20 May 1953
Profession and function in football:
President, Polish Football Association
President of the Polish Confederation of Sports Associations
Former international referee

Election statement: ”There should be equal opportunity to develop football in all European countries. I also attach great importance to the solidarity of the European football family, reduction of the disparities between European national associations with regard to stadium and training facilities, and the political independence of football. However, we must co-operate with governments in order to ensure that football performs its educational role and acts as an antidote to antisocial behaviour. We must also create and continue with different forms of competition, not only profit-making events. Finally, we should ensure that football stars act as role models for young people."

Football souvenir: ”I remember in particular the 1990 World Cup final in Italy, at which I was an assistant referee. Before the match, we had an audience with Pope John Paul II, who is a former sportsman himself."
