Medical symposium to discuss injuries

Injuries in football is the main topic on the agenda at UEFA’s third Sports Medical Symposium, which starts in Nyon on Monday.

Three-day meeting
Representatives of UEFA’s 51 European member associations and Europe’s leading clubs gather with members of the UEFA Medical Committee and UEFA Panel of Doping Control Officers for the three-day symposium at UEFA’s House of European Football.

“Protecting European Football”
The symposium is being held under the theme of “Protecting European Football”, and several of the presentations will deal with the treatment and protection of football injuries.

Clear guidelines
Members of the medical profession play a crucial role in modern-day football, especially in terms of treatment, diet and fitness, and UEFA is seeking clear guidelines for the future improvement of the game in this respect.

Key topics
Topics to be discussed include a UEFA study on professional football injuries, an analysis of injuries in women’s football in 2001, head injuries, and coaches and the prevention of injuries.

Doping debate
Delegates will also discuss doping and doping controls, recovery and regeneration and the role of the team doctor. Speakers include members of UEFA’s medical and doping bodies, as well as other eminent sports physicians.
