FC Schalke 04 striker Ebbe Sand has been named Player of the Year in Denmark.

Prestigious award
The award, which is organised by Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, was based on votes from the players in the Danish Superligaen as well as the first and second division.

Superior Sand
The Danish international, who scored the winning goal when Schalke secured a narrow 1-0 win on Tuesday against SV Darmstadt 98 in the German Cup, won the award in convincing style with 433 votes in front of Charlton Athletic FC’s Claus Jensen who only secured 42 votes while Everton FC's Thomas Gravesen came in third.

Still a lot to learn
"Ebbe is never satisfied and he also plays well when he doesn’t score," said Danish national coach Morten Olsen as he presented the prestigious prize to Sand. "But he still has a lot to learn and you know it very well, Ebbe!," added a smiling Olsen.
