England round-up: Spurs shatter Bolton

Teddy Sheringham scored a dramatic 85th-minute winner to shatter brave Bolton Wanderers FC and lift Tottenham Hotspur FC into fifth place in the FA Premiership on Monday.

The England striker spared the blushes of his goalkeeper Neil Sullivan, who earlier handed Bolton a 56th-minute equaliser when he allowed Rod Wallace's shot to slip through his grasp. Christian Ziege fired in a free-kick from the right and Sheringham glanced a near-post header beyond the grasp of Jussi Jaaskelainen in the Bolton goal.

Inspired Ferdinand
Sheringham's sixth goal of the season capped a fine Spurs fightback inspired by Les Ferdinand, who came off the bench at half-time to make one goal and score another himself in one magical minute. Gustavo Poyet was first to react to his looping header just after the break, before Ferdinand steered home after a fine one-two with fellow substitute Goran Bunjevcevic.

Ricketts opener
All that was after Michael Ricketts had fired Bolton into a seventh minute lead with his 12th goal of the season on the eve of his 23rd birthday. The tall forward beat Ledley King with a neat turn before slamming a low shot past a helpless Sullivan.

Ferdinand injury
The London club’s victory was tainted by an injury to second-half hero Ferdinand. Manager Glenn Hoddle revealed the former England striker is set for a precautionary x-ray after damaging an ankle. "Les twisted it late in the game," said Hoddle. "He'll need an x-ray to see what he's done to it. But I saw him [in the dressing room] without crutches and walking around afterwards, so it means it might take a week to settle down."
