Mahon leaves Bohemians

Pete Mahon parted company with Bohemian FC on Monday following a meeting with the Dublin club's board.

Summer appointment
Mahon only took over the managerial reins at Dalymount Park stadium in the summer following the departure of Roddy Collins. The club released a statement saying: "At a meeting today [Monday] between representatives of Bohemian Football Club and Pete Mahon, it was agreed by mutual consent that Pete Mahon would relinquish his position as manager of Bohemian Football Club.

'Totally committed'
"Management regret that we have to make this announcement as during his term as manager we have found Pete Mahon to be conscientious, honourable, and totally committed to his duties," continued the statement. "The club will shortly be making an announcement regarding Pete Mahon's successor and in the meantime we wish Pete every success in his future career."

Promising start
Mahon made a promising start to the season, including progressing to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League at the expense of Estonian side FC Levadia Maardu. But an honourable defeat against Swedish champions Halmstad BK ended their European adventure.

Slip to seventh
Initially, last season's National League and FAI Cup winners were flying high in the league and playing exciting, free-flowing football. However, one win in their last 13 league games, and five defeats, has seen Bohemians slip from the top of the table down to seventh.

Final straw
Last Friday's 2-0 defeat by Saint Patrick's Athletic FC signalled the end for Mahon, as speculation grew over the weekend that he would leave the club.
