TSV 1860 München have dismissed coach Werner Lorant in the wake of last weekend's 5-1 derby defeat by FC Bayern München.

Parted company
The 1. Bundesliga club confirmed they had parted company with Lorant on Thursday. The 52-year-old had been in charge of 1860 since July 1992 and had led them from third division regional football to Europe.

Last straw
Club president Karl-Heinz Wildmoser admitted the defeat to Bayern was the last straw as Lorant appeared to have lost the respect of the players. "The performance of the team in the last few weeks and especially against Bayern wasn't good," he said. "Relations between the team and Lorant were not the best."

Pacult in charge
He becomes the second top-flight managerial casualty in Germany this season after Hamburger SV's Frank Pagelsdorf, who lost his job following a series of poor results. Assistant coach Peter Pacult and former player Gerald Vanenburg will take over coaching duties until a permanent replacement is announced.

Next match
1860 are tenth in the Bundesliga, 13 points behind leaders 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Their next match is on Saturday when they visit FC Schalke 04.
