Conrad Kirkwood has been re-elected as president of the Irish Football Association (IFA) for a second one-year term.
The 54-year-old was confirmed in office at a meeting of the Irish FA Council at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park in Belfast.
Kirkwood was first voted into the position in June 2021, and he has since promoted growth and development of football at all levels in Northern Ireland.
In the past 12 months, the IFA has delivered the 2021 UEFA Super Cup at Windsor Park, published the association’s new five-year strategy and celebrated the senior women’s team’s achievement in qualifying for the forthcoming UEFA Women’s EURO in England.
A year of highlights
“I am absolutely delighted that a majority of Council members have placed their faith in me to remain as president of the association, to allow me to be in the role again and to do more good work,” Kirkwood said after his re-election.
“My first year has been full of highlights - being part of hosting the UEFA Super Cup and generally travelling to different parts of Northern Ireland to see the excellent work taking place in our footballing communities across the country.”
“I’ve also taken the opportunity to talk to travelling Northern Ireland fans,” he added, “particularly as they have come back in numbers after Covid. It has been good to hear what our fans get out of coming to the games and perhaps what could be done better. It is only by taking the time and sitting down with people that you understand this.”
