As has been the custom for the past ten years, the European Football Yearbook has been launched at the UEFA club season kick-off events in Monaco.

The 2016/17 edition of the Yearbook, now in its 29th year, is the tenth to have been published with the official backing of UEFA. It remains the only annual of authority and prestige devoted to European football, chronicling the past season in comprehensive, accurate and stylish detail.

As ever, the Yearbook is packed with facts, statistics, pictures and graphics from every reach of the continent. There is plenty to read in its 768 full-colour pages, too.

Every UEFA competition is allocated its own section, with special focus this year on the UEFA EURO 2016 final tournament in France. The UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League also feature prominently, alongside the various youth, women's and futsal competitions.

In-depth coverage of each member association, from Albania to Wales, comprises meticulously researched statistical content, including league results, scorers and appearances for every top-division club, plus a narrative review, club location map, logos, colours and kits. There is also an intriguing chapter profiling the top 100 players of the season as chosen by the Yearbook's editorial team.

The foreword is penned by Fernando Santos, head coach of UEFA EURO 2016 winners Portugal, who enthuses that the "long-running publication remains the most authoritative and attractive annual reference on this great game of ours". He adds that it is "a vast mine of information – statistical, narrative and pictorial", and that the 2016/17 edition, the cover of which shows Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo lifting the Henri Delaunay Cup at the Stade de France alongside his celebrating team-mates, is one he will particularly "treasure".

Mike Hammond, who has been the Yearbook's general editor since the very first edition in 1988 – when its cover stars were EURO-winning Dutchmen Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten – and who now contributes extensively to UEFA.com, says: "I am delighted that the European Football Yearbook continues to be received so warmly by its loyal and enthusiastic readership.

"I am sure that this latest edition, which includes an additional 16 pages at no extra cost, will find favour with regular purchasers," he goes on. "I also hope that new readers will be drawn to it. While essentially a reference book, it is designed to appeal to European football followers of all ages and all degrees of dedication. Style and content are equally important, and whether you wish to dip in and out of the various chapters at your leisure or settle down in a comfortable armchair and read it from cover to cover, there really is something in the European Football Yearbook for everyone."

Published by Carlton, the 2016/17 European Football Yearbook will be available for purchase in bookshops and online in early September. Pre-order your copy now
