Saturday's 3-1 home defeat by Valenciennes FC proved Fabrizio Ravanelli's last act in charge of AC Ajaccio after he was dismissed with the club lying second from bottom in Ligue 1.
Ajaccio president Alain Orsoni said: "It wasn't an easy decision and I did my best to make this work. We'll have a caretaker coach in place before appointing someone on a permanent basis. There will be an announcement on Monday."
The decision came as no great surprise to Ravanelli, who negotiated just one win from 12 Ligue 1 fixtures since taking over the reins from Albert Emon in June. "This was my last game. I've been sacked, which is hardly surprising considering the results," the former Italy striker conceded.
