Portugal continued their preparations for the FIFA World Cup finals with a disappointing goalless draw against Cape Verde Islands in Covilha.
Carlos Queiroz's side – who will face Côte d'Ivoire, North Korea and Brazil in South Africa – struggled to find their rhythm despite dominating possession. They could not make the most of their few chances and also played the last 20 minutes with ten men after Tiago came off injured with their permitted number of substitutions already made.
Cristiano Ronaldo had the first glimpse of goal for the hosts, but his free-kick in the third minute flew wide. Pedro Mendes and Nani were then denied by visiting goalkeeper Fock before Miguel Veloso also went close with a long-range effort.
Queiroz made several changes during the second half although it was usually their captain that Portugal looked towards to break the deadlock and Ronaldo almost obliged in the 62nd minute only for Fock to beat away his fierce shot.
Portugal play again in Covilha on 1 June against Cameroon, before facing Mozambique a week later in South Africa. They kick off their Group G campaign against Côte d'Ivoire on 15 June.
