Nicolai Stokholm and Bajram Fetai scored in extra time as FC Nordsjælland defeated FC Midtjylland 2-0 at the Parken Stadium to win the Danish Cup for the first time.
Nordsjælland were the better team in the first half but failed to get the better of Jonas Lössl, the talented 21-year-old goalkeeper denying Nicki Bille twice and Fetai. Midtjylland were not without chances of their own – both Baba Collins and Kolja Afriyie narrowly missed the target, while Jesper Hansen kept out Ken Ilsø's effort.
Stokholm hit the post just after the hour but made no mistake six minutes into extra time as he turned in a pass from Bille. Nordsjælland doubled their lead soon after the restart, Fetai finishing smartly to seal the victory and a berth in UEFA Europa League qualifying.
"This is so big. I'm close to tears right now," said Fetai. "This is what we've been fighting for all season and I'm not even sure that any of us have realised yet just what we've accomplished."
