First choice leaves
The 28-year-old Stanew was Legia's first-choice keeper for the past 18 months and helped them win the Polish championship last season. However, Shinnik's €220,000 offer matched the buy-out clause in the Bulgarian's contract and he opted to move to the Russian Premier-Liga by signing a deal that runs until 2005.
'Always in my heart'
"I will always keep Legia and Warsaw in my heart," Stanew said. "But I'm 28 and it is the best time to move. Of course, the offer from Shinnik also satisfies me financially."
Boruc chance
Legia's 23-year-old reserve keeper Artur Boruc will now get the chance to make the No1 jersey his own. "He is a complete goalkeeper," Legia coach Dragomir Okuka said. "The only problem is his lack of experience." Boruc has made only five top-flight appearances.
Mijanovic set to sign
Legia are also poised to sign Serbian custodian Zoran Mijanovic from Portuguese club SC Farense. "As soon as we receive his registration from the Portuguese federation, he will sign a one-year contract," Legia sports director Janusz Oledzki said. Legia are in third place in the Ekstraklasa, three points behind leaders Wisla Kraków.
