Armenian international Sarkis Hovsepyan has been named unofficial player of the year.

Armenian international and FC Zenit St. Petersburg defender Sarkis Hovsepyan has been named Armenian player of the year by the country's press – despite not winning the Armenian Football Federation’s official award.

Minasyan award
Hovsepyan was ineligible for the AFF prize, won by FC Pyunik midfield player Vardan Minasyan, because he plays his club football outside Armenia. But the 29-year-old Zenit player, capped 32 times by his country, took two days off and travelled from Russia to attend the unofficial ceremony.

Russian honours
Hovspeyan was also named among the best defenders in Russia’s Premier-Liga, where he has been playing since signing for Zenit from Armenian side FC Kilikia in 1997, by the Russian press.
