Vítor Pereira made a victorious start to life at the FC Porto helm on Sunday after guiding the UEFA Europa League holders to their third straight Portuguese Super Cup success in Aveiro.

Rolando was the hero in a 2-1 victory over a Vitória SC side the Dragões beat 6-2 in May's Portuguese Cup final. The centre-back capped an impressive start in Aveiro by heading in Hulk's third-minute cross, though after the half-hour Marcelo Toscano mustered an equaliser completely against the run of play. Rolando restored Porto's lead before the interval and from then on, the champions were comfortable.

Rolando said it represented "a good reward after a hard working pre-season under a new coach"; Pereira, stepping up from an assistant role this term, was himself happy to pick up where predecessor André Villas-Boas left off. "It's a huge satisfaction to win a trophy for a club I have supported since my youth," he said. "This is a starting point and a very good sign as Porto have won six of the last seven titles they have contested."

Porto will aim to make it seven from eight on 26 August when they take on UEFA Champions League holders FC Barcelona in the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco. They will enter the UEFA Champions League in the group stage and begin their Liga defence on Sunday, travelling for a swift rematch with Guimarães.
