Siniša Mihajlović has been installed as coach of AC Milan on a two-year contract following the sacking of Filippo Inzaghi.
Mihajlović, 46, parted company with UC Sampdoria earlier this month to be replaced by Walter Zenga. The former Yugoslavia defender started coaching as Roberto Mancini's assistant at FC Internazionale Milano in 2006, then took charge of Bologna FC, Calcio Catania and ACF Fiorentina before guiding the Serbian national team.
He left the Serbia helm in 2013 after failing to qualify for the FIFA World Cup and joined Sampdoria, finishing seventh last season. "I am ready for a big club, but I have always been ready for this, even last season or two years ago," said Mihajlović. "It is a fascinating challenge for me."
The 41-year-old Inzaghi was appointed as Clarence Seedorf's successor in June 2014, but could only take the club to tenth place in Serie A after collecting 13 wins, 13 draws and 12 losses. Last term, Inzaghi's team won fewer Serie A games than any Milan side since 2000/01.
Inzaghi, whose contract was set to expire in 2016, leaves Milan after 14 years: he signed in 2001 as a striker and began coaching their Under-20 team in 2012. As a Rossoneri player, Inzaghi lifted two Scudettos, two Italian Cups and Super Cups, two UEFA Champions League titles, a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.
