FC Dinamo Tbilisi goalkeeper Giorgi Loria was the hero of 19th Georgian Cup final as he made two crucial saves to secure the capital side a 2-0 victory in the penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw against FC Olimpi Rustavi.
Nergadze strike
Dinamo were pushed to the limit for their success, although their opponents did not create many opportunities during the first half, with right-back Gulverd Tomashvili having the best chance before the break when hitting the bar following a corner. Another defender, Giorgi Nergadze, put Dinamo ahead after the break after winning the ball in the box following another corner.
Dramatic finish
Dinamo then dominated the game until a dramatic last minute of the normal time, when they had Guram Kashia dismissed for a professional foul and then conceded from the resulting free-kick with Giorgi Megreladze finding the top corner. The shoot-out spoils belonged to the goalkeepers, though, with only Nergadze and Levan Khmaladze converting their attempts as Dinamo secured their ninth Georgian Cup.
'The real heroes'
Dinamo coach Kakhaber Kacharava said: "Maybe I made a small contrubution to our Georgian Cup triumph but all credit should go to the players who were the real heroes." His Olimpi counterpart Varlam Kilasonia admitted: "I couldn't watch the penalty shoot-out so I do not know how my players performed but I was told it was a poor show. Georgi Oniani, for example, missed the first penalty of his professional career. There is nothing we can do. We just have to be humble and continue working hard."
