AC Milan have lost goalkeeper Christian Abbiati for around six months after the 31-year-old injured his knee during the 5-1 victory at AC Siena on Sunday.

Collision
Abbiati was replaced after just 12 minutes following a collision with team-mate Giuseppe Favalli and scans on Monday revealed he has damaged cruciate ligaments in his right knee. "After a two or three-week rehabilitation period, Abbiati will have an operation in Belgium," the club stated. Abbiati has been at Milan since 1998 and although he has spent the previous three seasons away from San Siro on loan, he returned last summer and been ever present in the league since. Milan, who are third in Serie A, are already without midfielder Gennaro Gattuso and defender Kakha Kaladze for the rest of the season.
