FC Steaua Bucureşti owner George Becali announced at a press conference that the Romanian club had dismissed coach Dorinel Munteanu less than two months into a two-year contract, with Marius Lăcătuş resuming control.
Brief spell
The 40-year-old Munteanu, capped 134 times by Romania, led his side to just one victory following his appointment on 27 October. His side earned that win and four draws in the league and three defeats in the UEFA Champions League as they finished bottom of Group F. Fifth in Liga 1 at the winter break, Becali sacked Munteanu because, he said: "I do not see any chance of us winning the title."
Lăcătuş returns
The dismissed coach said: "I don't regret having joined Steaua and consider that I did my job and my duty." Meanwhile, the 44-year-old Lăcătuş has taken the helm again, having resigned on 22 October following a 5-3 home defeat by Olympique Lyonnais. Prior to his resignation, Becali had said: "I said that I would never sack Lăcătuş and I will respect my promise, so I will leave him alone until he drowns."
