Referee teams for UEFA EURO 2020 appointed

The UEFA Referees’ Committee has appointed 18 referees and their referee assistant teams who will take charge of the 51 matches at UEFA EURO 2020.

In addition, as part of an exchange programme within the framework of the cooperation agreement between UEFA and the South American Football Confederation CONMEBOL, for the first time ever a South American referee will join the European group of referees and a European will travel to South America. Argentinian referee Fernando Rapallini and his assistants will join the selected European referees for EURO 2020, while a Spanish refereeing team led by Jesús Gil Manzano will be part of the selected CONMEBOL referees for the Copa América 2021 in Argentina and Colombia.

“The exchange of referees with CONMEBOL for our two flagship tournaments will enrich both competitions, and will enhance the experience of top referees,” said UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. “Europe and South America have so much football quality and tradition, including in refereeing. This exchange is a defining part of our cooperation programme, which will help us improve our competitions.”

"Among our permanent objectives at CONMEBOL is making our referees more professional and perfectly trained for the use of technological tools,” added CONMEBOL President Alejandro Domínguez. “We are convinced that a cooperation with UEFA in this field will greatly benefit both confederations. This is just the beginning. We will continue working to broaden and strengthen collaboration agreements with our friends at UEFA."

Also for the first time, a female official has been selected for a men’s EURO. Stéphanie Frappart (France), who has officiated at several matches in UEFA’s men’s club and national team competitions this season, has been selected as support match official*, and will be acting as fourth official at matches together with other colleagues as per the attached full list of match officials.

Each refereeing team will consist of a referee, two assistant referees, a fourth official, a reserve assistant referee at the stadium, and a team of four video match officials. The full referee teams are available here.

The preparation of the officials for UEFA EURO 2020 will include a course for all referees, referee assistants and video match officials, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 10 to 13 May.

Referees, referee assistants and support referees will have their base camp in Istanbul from 7 June until the completion of the quarter-finals, after which the remaining match officials will move to London for the final three matches.
