Former AC Milan player and coach Luigi Radice has died at the age of 83 after a long illness.
A tenacious defender, normally a left-back, Radice was a key player for Milan in the Rossoneri’s title-winning campaign in 1961/62, after playing a more marginal role in the 1957 and 1959 triumphs. Capped five times with Italy, he was a member of the Milan squad that captured the 1962/63 European Cup, although he did not feature in the 2-1 victory over Benfica in the final at Wembley.
Radice’s playing career was cut short by a serious knee injury, and he quickly turned to coaching. After early successes in the lower divisions with Monza and Treviso, Radice won the Scudetto with Torino in 1975/76. During his career, he also coached, among others, AC Milan and Internazionale Milano, Fiorentina, Bologna and Roma.
