Futsal World Cup results and fixtures: Kazakhstan, Ukraine into quarter-finals

The tenth FIFA Futsal World Cup is running in Uzbekistan until 6 October.

Portugal's reign as world champions is over after losing 2-1 in the round of 16 to Kazakhstan, whose winner came in the last seconds. Ukraine are also into the quarter-finals (where they face Venezuela, fresh from eliminating Spain) after a 3-1 win against the Netherlands, who were in their first major tournament knockout game since UEFA Futsal EURO 1999.

For the third time in the four editions since the expansion to 24 teams, all seven European contenders advanced from the group stage. On Friday, France meet Thailand and Croatia face Argentina.
