Colombia staged the eighth FIFA Futsal World Cup from 10 September to 1 October 2016, won for the first time by Argentina.
As for the 2012 finals, the first with 24 teams, seven European sides qualified, including debutants Azerbaijan. Spain lost the 2012 final to Brazil and Italy beat Colombia for third place.
