Jorge Braz has been named as the new Portugal futsal coach having assisted predecessor Orlando Duarte.
Canadian-born Braz, 37, has worked for the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) since 2006. In January he helped the national team to their first UEFA European Futsal Championship final – losing 4-2 to Spain – under Duarte, who subsequently ended his ten-year reign and has now been appointed by Sporting Clube de Portugal.
Former Fundação Jorge Antunes coach Braz said: "It's a huge honour, a very special feeling of pride and an exciting challenge to be coach. This increased responsibility is proportional to the motivation I feel about contributing to the development of Portuguese futsal. The aim is continuing the quality work that has been done in previous years."
His first major task will be next spring: attempting to reach UEFA Futsal Euro 2012 in Croatia, with the draw scheduled for September. That will be followed by qualifying for the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand.
