The 2004 world champions Spain regained the UEFA European Futsal Championship title with victory over old rivals Russia in the final in the Czech Republic. Goals from Andreu and Cogorro gave Spain a 2-1 win in Ostrava for their third European title. The third place play-off was a repeat of the 2003 final and Italy again defeated Ukraine, this time on a 3-1 scoreline.
Ukraine and Russia advanced from Group A with the Netherlands and the Czech Republic dropping out despite each recording wins in a tight section. Italy won their group for the third tournament in succession without dropping a point with wins against Spain, Portugal and Hungary. They could not carry that run into the semi-finals, though, where Russia ran out 4-2 winners to set up a rematch of the 1999 final against Spain who had seen off Ukraine 5-0.
