There are also spots up for grabs for the play-offs, which will feature the ten group runners-up and the two highest-ranked UEFA Nations League group winners who finish outside the top two.

The big match: France vs Kazakhstan

Highlights: Kazakhstan 0-2 France

World champions France have managed just three wins from their six games in Group D, but despite that lacklustre record they stand on the verge of a return to the competition they won in 2018. Recently crowned as UEFA Nations League winners, Didier Deschamps' charges need just one last push – with victory against Kazakhstan certain to wrap up qualification. Having won 2-0 away to the bottom side in the section in March, Kylian Mbappé and Co will be confident of finishing the job.

Norway have Netherlands in sights

There is a last-day decider on the cards in Group G, where the Netherlands host Norway on Tuesday. Trailing the Oranje by two points with two to play, the Norwegians will be hoping the small constellation of stars forced to sit out last month's fixtures through injury can inspire them to a victory over Latvia that would set up a mouth-watering finale. Fail to prevail, however, and the Netherlands can seal early progress by triumphing in Montenegro.

Worth looking out for

Highlights: Estonia 2-5 Belgium

• Along with France and the Netherlands, Belgium can also secure a ticket to the World Cup finals on Saturday. Already certain of a top-two finish in Group E, the Red Devils will end any lingering suspense providing they can defeat an Estonia team they slotted five goals past in Tallinn just two months ago.

• There is a huge night in prospect for Gareth Bale, who will collect his 100th cap if he appears for Wales against Belarus. "To get 100 caps will personally be an incredible achievement and one you never think about when you start out," said the 32-year-old, hopeful of featuring in Cardiff despite a recent hamstring injury.
