Having beaten Turkey in their first UEFA EURO 2016 Group A home game, Iceland will look to pull off another coup as top seeds the Netherlands head north.
Match background
• Iceland's record in ten previous meetings with the Netherlands – all FIFA World Cup or UEFA European Championship qualifiers – is pretty miserable: D1 L9. That lone draw was a 1-1 in Reykjavik on 1 September 1982.
• Atli Edvaldsson – father of current Icelandic women's international Sif Atladóttir – put Iceland ahead after 49 minutes of that match, but Dirk Schoenaker replied within two minutes. As yet, those two minutes were the only ones in 900 of competitive football when Iceland have led the Netherlands.
• Lars Lagerbäck's side can take some encouragement from the fact their most recent encounters have been relatively close: Iceland lost 2-0 away and 2-1 at home to the Oranje in 2010 World Cup qualifying.
• Iceland midfielder Kári Árnason turns 33 on the day of the Netherlands fixture.
• Iceland boss Lagerbäck met the Netherlands three times (D2 L1) during his spell as co-coach of Sweden – along with Tommy Söderberg. Most notably, Sweden lost out to the Dutch on penalties following a 0-0 draw in the quarter-finals of UEFA EURO 2004.
• Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink has got the better of Lagerbäck in the past, his Russia team overcoming Sweden 2-0 in the group stage of UEFA EURO 2008.
