The Netherlands will look to make up lost ground following an opening day defeat by the Czech Republic in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group A. They welcome Kazakhstan for the first time.

Match background
• This is the Netherlands and Kazakhstan's first meeting at senior or men's age-group level.

• The Netherlands beat Kazakhstan 6-1 at the 2008 UEFA European Under-21 Futsal Championship, while the nations have met twice at women's Under-17 level, the Dutch winning 2-0 in 2010 and 11-0 in 2013.

• At club level, the only four meetings in UEFA competitions have ended W2 D1 L1 in the Dutch sides' favour – with both of those victories coming at home.

• The most recent of those meetings were in the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League. AZ Alkmaar travelled a UEFA group stage record 4,400km to draw 1-1 with FC Shakhter Karagandy at their European base in Astana. Shakhter promptly broke that record, as they took a 4,600km return journey, only to lose the return leg 1-0.

• The Netherlands have won their last 17 competitive home matches, and have not lost in 34 competitive fixtures on home soil (W31 D3) since a 2-0 reverse to Portugal in a FIFA World Cup qualifier on 11 October 2000.

• They have never lost a UEFA European Championship qualifier or play-off in the Netherlands (W40 D9) – though they did lose 2-1 to Luxembourg in Rotterdam in October 1963 when they were the nominal away team.

• Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink recorded a 3-0 away win and a 2-1 home victory against Kazakhstan during his time as Turkey coach.

• Hiddink and Kazakshtan coach Yuri Krasnozhan both previously coached Russian side FC Anji Makhachkala – though Krasnozhan resigned after just three months having never been in charge of a competitive game.
