Having traded home defeats in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying, both Montenegro and Moldova will feel they have unfinished business as they meet again in UEFA EURO 2016 Group H.
Match background
• Those 2014 World Cup qualifying matches were the sides' only previous meetings. Mirko Vučinić (78) scored the only goal as Branko Brnović's Montenegro beat Ion Caras's men 1-0 in Chisinau on 22 March 2013, with the visitors' Milorad Peković (61) and Moldova's Alexandru Gaţcan both shown red cards.
• Moldova had their revenge in the rematch in Podgorica on 15 October 2013; Stevan Jovetić (55p, 90+1) scored twice for the home side, but Alexandru Antoniuc (28, 89), Igor Armaş (62), Eugeniu Sidorenco (64) and Artur Ioniţă (73) struck to earn Moldova a 5-2 win. It was the most emphatic competitive away victory in their history and the only time they have scored more than four goals away from home.
• The nations have met just once in UEFA's youth and age-group tournaments, Moldova winning 3-1 in a 2007 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying round match in Belgium.
• The first three games between Moldovan and Montenegrin clubs in UEFA competition ended in draws, before FC Sheriff broke the deadlock in some style in the most recent encounter, winning 5-0 at FK Sutjeska in the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League second qualifying round second leg.
