Iceland were denied a point by a late goal when they met Denmark on 7 September last year and they will look for revenge when the teams meet again in Reykjavik in UEFA EURO 2012 Group I.

• Nine months ago, Thomas Kahlenberg turned in Dennis Rommedahl's cross a minute into added time to reward the home side for some sustained pressure and finally beat visiting goalkeeper Gunnleifur Gunnleifsson who had come so close to earning his side a point in front of 18,908 at the Parken Stadion.

• History does not augur well for Iceland, whose record in 18 matches against Denmark reads W0 D3 L15 (W0 D3 L6 at home). They have not scored in their last four games against their Nordic rivals, and have lost all five of the teams' competitive meetings.

• Denmark twice beat Iceland in UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying. On 6 September 2006, goals from Rommedahl and Jon Dahl Tomasson earned the Danes a 2-0 win in Reykjavik and the latter struck the second as Morten Olsen's men triumphed 3-0 in the return on 21 November 2007.

• Denmark enjoyed an even more resounding success en route to the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals, triumphing 6-0 in Copenhagen on 6 October 2001 having won the away encounter 2-1.

• Prior to those competitive outings, the nations contested 13 friendlies, with Denmark's dominance at its fullest when they prevailed 14-2 in Copenhagen on 23 August 1967. Denmark have also recorded 6-2, 5-2 and 5-1 scorelines.

• Iceland's best results against Denmark to date were three goalless friendly draws in 1970, 1978 and 1991.

• Denmark trail section leaders Norway by three points. Iceland picked up their first Group H point in their most recent fixture, drawing 0-0 in Cyprus.
