There will be 13 European teams at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil, football's global governing body decided today.
At the FIFA Executive Committee meeting in Zurich, UEFA was allocated the same number of berths as at the 2010 edition, in which Spain defeated the Netherlands in the final. It is the first time that Europe has retained its full allocation since 1998.
The allocation for other confederations is: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) 4.5, Confederation of African Football (CAF) 5.0, Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) 3.5, South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) 4.5, Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) 0.5, and one slot for the hosts Brazil.
Among other FIFA decisions, the Turkish Football Association (TFF) was awarded the right to stage the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
