Germany midfielder Christian Träsch has been ruled out of the FIFA World Cup after injuring his ankle colliding with a perimeter fence during a training match on Monday.
The VfB Stuttgart player, 22, slid into the fence while attempting to keep the ball in play during a friendly against local team FC Südtirol at Germany's training camp. He has been diagnosed with an injured bone and tendon in his right ankle. Träsch faces around six weeks on the sidelines.
"We're all disappointed as Christian would have been in the final World Cup squad," said assistant coach Hansi Flick, who confirmed that no replacement would be named.
Germany have already lost captain Michael Ballack (ankle ligaments) and goalkeeper René Adler (broken rib) to injury ahead of a Group A campaign in which they will face Australia, Serbia and Ghana.
