Article body
Momcilo Vukotic has stepped down as coach of Cyprus after a difficult start to their FIFA World Cup campaign.
Poor results
The Cyprus Football Association has parted company with the Serbo-Montenegrin coach by mutual consent after several months of uncertainty about his future. The Cypriot press had been calling for his resignation, with Cyprus having picked up just one point from their opening five Group 4 games.
Internal wrangling
Disputes within the squad further soured the atmosphere for Vukotic, who took over as Cyprus coach in 2002. During his time in charge he collected just four wins - two UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying victories against Malta and friendly wins against Georgia and Kazakhstan.
Next match
There have been no indications yet of a likely successor for Vukotic. Cyprus's next competitive match is away against Switzerland on 30 March next year.
