Quaresma steps up for Portugal

Ricardo Quaresma's late call-up for Portugal leads the injury news ahead of Wednesday's qualifiers.

uefa.com rounds up the latest squad news ahead of tomorrow's FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Quaresma in
Group 3 leaders Portugal will be without injured duo Simão Sabrosa and Miguel against Luxembourg. Simão injured his right foot in SL Benfica's 1-1 draw against CS Marítimo on Saturday and makes way for FC Barcelona's Ricardo Quaresma who is promoted from the Under-21 squad. Also in Group 3, Estonia have lost midfield player Liivo Leetma and strikers Aleksandr Saharov and Indrek Zelinski to injury for the tie away to Russia. Ott Reinumäe and Aleksandr Dmitriev come in.

Dellas doubt
Greece centre-back Traianos Dellas (stomach) and striker Dimitrios Papadopoulos (sprained ankle) are both doubtful for the Group 2 tie at home to Kazakhstan, but left-back Stylianos Venetidis is expected to start after recovering from a back problem as the European champions look for their first qualifying win in four attempts.

Danish doubts
Also in Group 2, Denmark are without the injured Martin Laursen, Kasper Bøgelund and Claus Jensen for the match in Georgia, while Thomas Helveg and Jesper Grønkjær are both suspended. Morten Wieghorst has resumed training after five months out with a knee injury, but this match comes to soon for him. Thomas Sørensen, Daniel Jensen and Peter Madsen all return from injury.

Mpenza out
Striker Emile Mpenza (foot) has withdrawn from the Belgium side to play Group 7 leaders Serbia and Montenegro. He is replaced by Luigi Pieroni, while goalkeeper Frédéric Herpoel comes in for the injured Tristan Peersman. Nenad Jestrovic misses out for Serbia and Montenegro after failing to recover from his broken arm in time.

Armenia changes
Gevorg Kasparov will replace the injured Armen Hambartsumyan in goal for Armenia at home to Romania in Group 1. Artavazd Karamyan and Andrei Movsisyan also miss out while defender Valery Aleksanyan is called up as cover for Karen Dokhoyan. Striker Aram Voskanyan has also been drafted in. In Group 4, midfield player Georgos Konstanti has been picked by Cyprus to play Israel following the withdrawal of Nicos Nicolaou.

Spain problems
Spain coach Luis Aragonés has been forced to reshuffle his squad for the friendly against England because of injury to Carles Puyol and Iván Helguera. FC Barcelona defender Puyol sprained the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee in Sunday's defeat by Real Betis Balompié while Helguera has damaged the meniscus in his right knee. Defender Juanito Gutiérrez and midfield player Pablo Orbaiz have replaced them. Joe Cole misses out for England through illness.

Barthez out
Goalkeeper Fabien Barthez has withdrawn from the France squad to play Poland in a friendly at the Stade de France after injuring his knee playing for Olympique de Marseille on Saturday. With Grégory Coupet also injured, Mickaël Landreau is expected to start, while Sébastien Frey will provide cover. Poland striker Tomasz Frankowski has been promoted to the starting XI after scoring twice as a substitute in last month's Group 6 wins over Austria and Wales.

Scotland injuries
Scotland caretaker coach Tommy Burns has been beset by injury problems ahead of his side's friendly against Sweden, his first match in charge of the national side. Captain Barry Ferguson, Gary Naysmith and Andy Gray are the latest casualties, with Colin Cameron, Steve Thompson and Paul Dickov already missing. Gary Holt and Gary Caldwell are also doubtful. Defender Andy O'Brien has pulled out of the Republic of Ireland squad for Tuesday's friendly against Croatia.
