FC Bayern München midfield player Jens Jeremies has announced that he will no longer play for Germany.
Confirms retirement
After returning from his holidays today to begin pre-season training with Bayern, the 30-year old said that he would not be taking any part in the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign regardless of who is chosen as successor to former national team coach Rudi Völler.
Four minutes
Jeremies played just four minutes of football at UEFA EURO 2004™, making a substitute appearance after 86 minutes of Germany's 2-1 defeat against the Czech Republic. "Now I have 55 caps and there will certainly be no more to come," he said.
Successful spell
The former TSV 1860 München and 1. FC Dynamo Dresden player was part of the Germany side who were runners-up at the 2002 World Cup. Since joining Bayern in 1998 he has won four German titles and two German Cups together with the UEFA Champions League and the European/South American Cup in 2001.
