Two second-half goals ensured Wales celebrated their first-ever UEFA European Championship qualification with a 2-0 victory against Andorra in Cardiff.

The home fans had turned up for a party to mark Chris Coleman's team's historic achievement, and were rewarded with a pre-match performance by popular local band Super Furry Animals. Once the game got going the focus was naturally on Gareth Bale, who elicited a 14th-minute save from Ferran Pol, but injuries were the early story with Wales's Hal Robson-Kanu and Andorra's Victor Moreira forced off.

Max Llovera was grateful to Pol for tipping over his header that was heading for an Andorra own goal, and the goalkeeper then did brilliantly to turn an Aaron Ramsey effort onto the crossbar and keep the visitors level at half-time.

At the interval Robson-Kanu's substitute David Edwards was himself taken off injured, meaning a debut for Tom Lawrence. And the breakthrough came in the 50th minute, Ramsey smashing in the rebound after an Ashley Williams header was saved.

Andorra continued to defend stoutly and in the 70th minute captain Óscar Sonejee was replaced, the 39-year-old bowing out of international football after a record 105 caps. With four minutes left, though, Bale blasted in his seventh Group B goal from near the penalty spot to have the final say.
