Defender Jordi Alba reflects on his goal in the UEFA EURO 2012 final – Spain's second in the 4-0 defeat of Italy in Kyiv. Alba initially picked up the ball in his own half, but a 50-metre sprint forward allowed him to latch onto Xavi Hernández's pass and fire past Gianluigi Buffon.
"I didn't think much," said Alba. "At that moment in the match we didn't have any forwards. I thought about it later – I don't know why I ran upfield but I did. Xavi was looking for someone but he couldn't see anybody, so I just ran and he passed to me. I controlled it well and shot well. Thinking about it now, I don't know why I ran forward, there was nobody from my team there! It was a great moment for me."
