Sweden frustrated, Russia accept draw

"We had the chances to win," said Jimmy Durmaz after Sweden's 1-1 draw with Russia that Fabio Capello and Aleksandr Kokorin were happy with despite leading early on.

Jimmy Durmaz, Sweden midfielder
It's always different to play without Zlatan and Albin [Ekdal]. They're two good players – especially Zlatan. With him on the pitch we have a different game. Today Ola scored one goal so that's good for him. It's not good that he's injured so we have to take care of him now.

Normally I play on the wings. With Albin injured I went into the midfield and played there. It felt good. I felt good in that position, that's no problem for me.

Right now I'm disappointed. We had the chances to win this game and we had a penalty that we missed, sometimes that happens. That's football.

Erik Hamrén, Sweden coach
We started very well and their goal felt like a punch in the stomach. I'm proud that we could come back, even if we missed the penalty. But in the last 20 minutes the players lacked energy. For example Mikael Antonsson wanted to be substituted but we gave him some bananas and energy and he could continue. I think Antonsson and Andreas Granqvist performed very well staving off their attacks. Up front I want to give credit to Jimmy Durmaz, both when he won the penalty and the assist shows his ability.

I understand it's better to win one and lose one compared with having two points, but on the other hand our opponents didn't win either. The fact that Austria beat Moldova and Montenegro drew with Liechtenstein shows there are no easy games at all.

We managed to keep the ball better in the second half, but it's difficult for any team to perform at their top level for 90 minutes. Also [Russia] had more days together where they could rest and practise before this match. I think that showed at the end when we were very tired. Ola Toivonen [substituted not long after his goal] won't be playing on Sunday unfortunately.

Aleksandr Kokorin, Russia forward
We scored the first goal as we expected and after that we held out. A lot of players in our team are not in good shape so it's a good result for us. We're disappointed but it's a normal result for us.

Fabio Capello, Russia coach
We played really well and had a lot of chances to score. All the players performed well. The attacking players Kokorin and [Artem] Dzyuba – they played well and most importantly they were quick to help out in midfield, on the defensive side of the game.

I am happy about the performance and the result, we had a lot of chances to score but they also had some chances. I am happy when players do well, but I don't like them to make mistakes and I want them to do as I say before the match.

I know Zlatan very well, I know what he can do, the value of the player. When you have Zlatan on the pitch they can play more long balls because he can hold the ball. He is one of the three best players in the world. He can change the game, score and make assists. Defenders always have problems with him, he can draw yellow and red cards. But we are talking about one player, it wasn't easy just because he wasn't on the pitch. Sweden are a good team.
