Ireland recommence their UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying campaign against Scotland on Friday evening. They are looking to reach a second successive European final tournament, though France in two years' time would be just their third in all. Perhaps their most memorable moment came on 15 June 1988 in Hanover, when Whelan hooked in a long throw during his country's 1-1 draw with the USSR.

"[It's] memorable in Ireland because they just call it the 'shinner', as it came off my shin!" said Whelan. "Everybody remembers it, which is great. It was in 1988 – so many years ago – but people still remember it."

What rating would you give the goal?
