Ødegaard breaks record as Norway beat Bulgaria

Martin Ødegaard, aged 15 years and 300 days, came on to become the youngest player in UEFA European Championship history as Norway beat Bulgaria 2-1 in Oslo.

Ødegaard took to the field midway through the second half to claim a record held by Sigurdur Jónsson since June 1983. Two more experienced team-mates – Tarik Elyounoussi and Håvard Nielsen – were Norway's heroes, however, scoring either side of Nikolay Bodurov to take Norway into third spot in qualifying Group H.

Elyounoussi, who has started the season strongly at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, broke the deadlock after 13 minutes, latching onto Per Ciljan Skjelbred's high through ball before going past visiting goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov and netting from close range. Bulgaria were level moments before the interval, though, Bodurov heading firmly past Ørjan Håskjold Nyland from a corner to register his first international goal.

Håvard, who came off the bench just before the hour, had the final word 18 minutes from time when he converted a low cross. Victory leaves Norway on six points, three adrift of both Croatia and Italy.
