Wayne Rooney received an award from UEFA to honour his reaching 100 caps for England before Sunday's European Qualifier against Slovenia at Wembley.
Rooney made his debut as a 17-year-old in February 2003, becoming England's youngest ever player in the process. He had racked up 43 international goals prior to kick-off against Slovenia. He becomes the ninth England player to reach a century of appearances for his country.
"It's something that I'm extremely proud to achieve, of course, but the ultimate aim is to be successful," said the Manchester United FC forward. "I don't just want to be remembered as one of the players who gets 100 caps or more. You want to be successful – that's the main aim."
