Davor Šuker's lob for Croatia against Denmark in the EURO '96 group stage is one of the most famous goals in UEFA European Championship history – "it was class, it was class," said Peter Schmeichel, the man (almost) between the posts at the time.

Schmeichel's Denmark side – European champions four years earlier – were 2-0 down and desperately seeking to preserve their title defence in the closing exchanges of their meeting with Croatia in Sheffield. Goalkeeper Schmeichel duly went up for a late corner, only for Miroslav Blažević's team to clear and counterattack with pace, leading to Šuker's impudent coup de grace.
"I don't remember anything," joked Schmeichel. "Of course I do really! It was class, it was class. I have to say, I made it fairly easy for him, but it was class. He was a class player, played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, and he was absolutely fantastic for Croatia. You have to appreciate class, and it was one of the better goals."
