A first-half Akaki Khubutia own goal gave Scotland their first victory in UEFA EURO 2016 Group D after a nervy encounter with Georgia in Glasgow.

As expected, Scotland took the game to the visitors but had little to show for it in the opening stages apart from a series of corners. However, the pressure eventually paid off for Gordon Strachan's side just before the half-hour following their sixth corner.

The Georgian defence thought they had dealt with the immediate danger, but the ball broke to Shaun Maloney and although Giorgi Loria saved his initial shot the ball broke back off Khubutia and trundled into the net.

Having made the breakthrough, Scotland dominated the rest of the first half with Scott Brown almost doubling the lead with a strike that deflected past the post with Loria beaten. Temuri Ketsbaia introduced Tornike Okriashvili at the interval, and while the change brought Georgia more possession, they could not create any chances, with David Marshall reduced to a spectator role in the Scotland goal.

Steven Naismith passed up an opportunity with 12 minutes remaining after a clever back-heel from Steven Fletcher. Meanwhile, at the other end, substitute Irakli Dzaria went close for Georgia before James Morrison tested Loria again as Scotland held on for a narrow win.
