Danny Welbeck, England forward
I think we created a number of chances where maybe we could have done better with the final pass. Once we got the first goal I think we were in control and played a good team game and you could see the work ethic – everyone is playing for each other and that's very important.
[For the second goal] obviously we've sat back a little bit deeper and we've got the pace to get in behind them, so once they went Raz [Sterling] took the ball down the wing, played it into Rickie [Lambert] and then I knew he had the ability to slide me in and thankfully he did that. My first touch was nice and it was a nice finish.
Wayne Rooney, England captain
We're pleased that the things we've worked on have paid off so it's a happy performance for us. We did well as a team and we took our chances. We caught them on the break with speed and Dan got two great goals so I'm really delighted.
Johan Djourou, Switzerland defender
It's unfortunate. We were beaten because of losing two balls in midfield. It's always a bit difficult when you lose like that. We also had a few opportunities to make the difference, but it wasn't enough. England are a great football nation and they were able to take advantage of their counterattacks.
In modern-day football, you don't get away with making mistakes. It's always difficult to make amends for them, especially when they occur in important positions. You lose as a team, that's true, but we could have avoided those losses of possession which hurt us.
I think there are many things to improve. There's a new coach, a new philosophy, and there's a lot of things for everyone to take on board. The team has a lot of talent, we showed that at the World Cup, and we have to continue like this, working hard.
Gökhan Inler, Switzerland midfielder
We were unlucky to lose. With the chances we created, we deserved a goal, but that's football. You have to be able to live with it.
We had to change things and we played more compact. The defenders had to do a little bit more. The full-backs had to work harder and we all had to defend a bit more in the first half. I had to do that too. In the first half we did relatively well. We were able to create one or two chances going forward, but we didn't manage to score.
Things are going well with the new coach. He hasn't had a lot of time to get to know the players, but we worked well together and we tried to do what he asked us. It's a shame it didn't work out.
