Norway have not played in a major men's senior final tournament since they bowed out of UEFA EURO 2000 after the group stage, but a new generation are eager to end that barren spell.
"It would mean a lot, especially for the young players," said 21-year-old FC Salzburg midfielder Valon Berisha as he looked ahead to the European Qualifiers with UEFA.com. "You can see that many new faces are getting chances in the Norwegian Premier Division and abroad, so it would be important for us to be a part of the EUROs. It would bring Norway forward with a new, younger generation."
Per-Mathias Hogmø's charges take on Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan and Malta in Group H, but up-and-coming Mats Møller Dæhli, 19, is confident his side are up to the challenge. "We have great team spirit and unity and good coaches; we are trying to play offensive-minded football," said the Cardiff City AFC midfielder.
"We need to keep working on the new way of playing that we have started. It might take time, but if we play well I think we will qualify." Norway kick their campaign off at home to Malta on 9 September.
