Lampard landmark marked at Wembley

Frank Lampard received awards from UEFA and the English Football Association (FA) prior to England's 2-0 home defeat by Chile tonight, the midfielder having chalked up a century of international appearances.

Lampard became the eighth centurion in England's history in September's FIFA World Cup qualifying draw in Ukraine. The FA opted to wait until qualification for Brazil was secure – a feat achieved with victory against Poland last month – before allowing Lampard, now on 103 caps, to collect his commemorative awards.

The Chelsea FC player's father, Frank Lampard Sr who represented England twice, and Sir Geoff Hurst, the Three Lions' hat-trick hero in the 1966 World Cup final, made the presentation to the 35-year-old at Wembley. Lampard was made captain for the evening in the absence of injured skipper Steven Gerrard and was joined by daughters Luna and Isla as he led out the side.

"To win 100 caps was a long time coming and I've seen gold caps given to Stevie [Gerrard] and Ashley [Cole]," said Lampard Jr. "The idea of Sir Geoff being involved came from the FA, but it's one I'm very happy with. I requested my dad was involved as well."
