Averaging 2.2 points per match, Joachim Löw has become the most successful Germany coach of all time since succeeding Jürgen Klinsmann in 2006. While big victories have so far eluded the 53-year-old, he has been responsible for making Germany serious contenders in each of the last three major international final tournaments. UEFA.com sums up his Germany career in quotes.
"We're all brutally disappointed – it's just tough to concede such a goal two minutes from the end. But we need to see the positives here, as we have a young team with great potential."
Löw, then still assistant to coach Jürgen Klinsmann, after Germany's semi-final exit in the 2006 FIFA World Cup
"Sometimes even a difficult birth can produce a beautiful child."
Löw following his first competitive match in charge, a 1-0 UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying victory against the Republic of Ireland in September 2006
"Yes, we lost the final and that's a disappointment for us all, but the fact we made it to the final is an achievement in itself. We need to go on working because, in this tournament, we've not always played as well as we should."
Bloodied but unbowed, Löw responds after Germany's 1-0 loss to Spain in the final of UEFA EURO 2008
"We weren't good enough tonight. We have a core, a nucleus, and their development has just started. The Spanish team have played together now for three years, whereas we've only really been together for six weeks. In the future we'll be able to contain such players and play with more freedom. Our team is capable of much more."
More Spanish agony for Löw, who was quick to focus on the future following a 1-0 semi-final defeat at the 2010 World Cup
"We've had two great years. The team has developed very well, winning 15 [competitive] games in a row. We still played a great tournament and we have really moved forward. We won four games and lost one. We have caught up with other nations at the top of the game. There will be more chances in the future."
Löw reflecting on a period which disappointingly ended with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Italy in the UEFA EURO 2012 semi-finals
"We need to inject some more stability into our defence and our game in the final third needs to improve a bit."
Despite another impressive qualification campaign during which Germany remained unbeaten to reach the 2014 World Cup, Löw was not complacent
"I make mistakes every day, but I am constantly reflecting and holding up the mirror."
