Dimitar Berbatov scored a hat-trick as Bulgaria signed off from FIFA World Cup qualifying with a flourish, a 6-2 victory against Georgia securing third spot in Group 8.
Manchester-based pair
The Manchester United FC striker got off the mark after just six minutes at the Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia, converting from Martin Petrov's neat pass. Provider turned scorer eight minutes later as Manchester City FC winger Petrov pounced on an error from Georgia goalkeeper Georgi Lomaia. Berbatov then grabbed the limelight back, completing his first hat-trick for Bulgaria with goals in the 23rd and 38th minutes, either side of a Stanislav Angelov effort and Vladimer Dvalishvili's goal for Georgia. Petrov made it 6-1 a minute before the break, and while Levan Kobiashvili converted a penalty for the visitors six minutes after the interval, Levan Khmaladze's dismissal seven minutes later removed the wind from their sails.
