Knee injury
Nedvěd quit the national team after a knee injury forced him out of the semi-final defeat by Greece at UEFA EURO 2004™. The 33-year-old former FK Marila Príbram, AC Sparta Praha and S.S. Lazio winger made his debut in June 1994 in a 3-1 win against the Republic of Ireland and was the driving force behind the Czechs' run to the final of EURO '96™. He also played at UEFA EURO 2000™ but failed to help his team qualify for the Korea/Japan FIFA World Cup.
'Two games'
After 83 caps and 17 goals, Nedvěd announced he had played his final match for his country on 24 September last year, subsequently taking no part as the Czechs finished second behind the Netherlands in qualifying Group 1 to earn a place in today's play-off draw where they were paired with Norway. In an interview on Italian television this afternoon, he said: "Nobody has called me yet. However, if someone does, I will seriously consider playing. It would only be for two games but I would be very happy to help my country."
