Who is Slovenia coach?

This is Matjaž Kek's second spell in charge of the Slovenian national team. After beginning his managerial career at Maribor, Kek was first appointed Slovenia coach in 2007 and he took charge during the 2010 World Cup, in which his team finished third in their group. After further adventures at Saudi side Al-Ittihad and Croatian outfit Rijeka, Kek returned to the Slovenia post in 2018, and has now secured his country's first appearance at a EURO finals in 24 years.

Slovenia key player: Jan Oblak

Rated one of the planet's premier shot-stoppers, the Slovenia captain has made over 300 appearances for Atlético de Madrid and boasts considerable Champions League experience. Nicknamed 'The Octopus of Škofja Loka', the 31-year-old can expect a busy tournament, so should be pivotal to Slovenia's success.

Slovenia one to watch: Benjamin Šeško

The lofty Leipzig forward was not even born when Slovenia played at their last EURO in 2000, but it was his penalty against Kazakhstan – his tenth goal for his country – that secured his side’s passage to these finals. Šeško moved to Salzburg aged 16, scoring regularly for the Austrian club before switching to Germany last summer.

How did Slovenia qualify for EURO 2024?

Group H runners-up: P10 W7 D1 L2 F20 A9
This was some campaign for Slovenia. Beaten only twice across their ten fixtures, Kek's team finished off with a 2-1 win against their rivals for runners-up spot, Kazakhstan, to reach a major international tournament for only the fourth time and a first since the 2010 World Cup. They are yet to go beyond the group stage.
