Today, in Frankfurt am Main, the German Football Association (DFB) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) founded a joint venture for the organisation of UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany. The shareholders of the joint venture, which is known as ‘EURO 2024 GmbH’ and based in Frankfurt am Main, are DFB EURO GmbH and UEFA Events SA. The relevant agreements were signed in the presence of a notary at the DFB’s headquarters in Frankfurt am Main today. Philipp Lahm, ambassador of the successful EURO bid and DFB EURO GmbH director, will act as tournament director on the joint venture’s behalf.

The EURO 2024 GmbH directors are Andreas Schär, currently chief of venue operations at UEFA Events SA, and Markus Stenger, DFB EURO GmbH director and leader of Germany’s successful bid to host EURO 2024. Policy decisions relating to EURO 2024 will be controlled by a steering group, under the guidance of senior UEFA and DFB officials.

Martin Kallen, CEO of UEFA Events SA, explained: “Today is a milestone on the road to UEFA EURO 2024. The strength of the EURO as a huge sports event and brand, together with the experience of UEFA and the DFB in match and tournament organisation, are brought together within the joint venture in order to create the best possible conditions for an outstanding tournament. We are very much looking forward to continuing our successful collaboration.”

Fritz Keller, DFB president, said: “Anticipation of UEFA EURO 2024 in our country is growing by the day and, even though the current situation is creating many challenges, the tournament is a beacon of hope for our country and an event we are really looking forward to. Thanks to constructive talks with our partners at UEFA, we are convinced that we will able to create a contemporary and sustainable EURO that will give enormous impetus to our association and the Federal Republic of Germany.”

Philipp Lahm, tournament director, commented: “A major competition needs professional foundations. With the joint venture between the DFB and UEFA, we have created an appropriate platform to ensure UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany is a huge success. We can now launch new projects and move forward. I am grateful to our colleagues at UEFA. As EURO 2024 tournament director, I am really looking forward to our cooperation and the next steps that we will now embark on together.”

The DFB was selected to host EURO 2024 at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon on 27 September 2018. In June 2019, DFB EURO GmbH was created as a DFB subsidiary to organise major football events such as UEFA EURO 2020 matches in Munich and to prepare for EURO 2024. EURO 2024 GmbH will now address the key challenges that lie ahead, such as staffing, budgetary and organisational planning, as well as preparing for the operational and strategic implementation of the tournament.
